The upstream sector reported 194 awarded contracts in October 2017.  Among the notable contracts in the upstream sector was Transocean’s 10-year contract estimated worth $1.9bn for the provision of an ultra-deepwater drillship – Deepwater Pontus of DSME 12000 design for drilling operations in the US Gulf of Mexico.

Operations and maintenance (O&M) accounted for around 75 percent of the awarded upstream contracts. There were contracts for well intervention and well management services; rig positioning services; Insulation, Scaffolding, Surface Treatment, and Operational Support (ISO) services for offshore installations; provision of semi-submersible drilling rigs, deepwater drillships, jack-up rigs, Floating Production, Storage, and Offloading (FPSO) vessels, Anchor Handling Tug Supply (AHTS) vessels, Platform Supply Vessels (PSV), Offshore Supply Vessels (OSV); asset integrity services; installation, maintenance, modification, and commissioning of subsea equipment; oil field services; and drilling, completions, well site management, and maintenance services.

Contracts with multiple scopes, such as construction, design and engineering, installation, O&M, and procurement, accounted for 13 percent of the contracts awarded in the upstream sector in October 2017. There were contracts for the Engineering, Procurement, Construction, Installation, and Commissioning (EPCIC) of Subsea Umbilicals, Risers, and Flowlines (SURF) and subsea production systems; Front End Engineering and Design (FEED) and EPCIC for unmanned platforms; Engineering, Procurement, and Construction Management (EPCM) and project management services for field development projects; design and conversion of a Very Large Crude Carrier (VLCC) into a FPSO vessel; supply and installation of Electric Submersible Pumps (ESP) and maintenance services; provision for the application of Autonomous Inflow Control Devices (AICDs) to perform a multi-well trial; provision of drilling package, including equipment, engineering, and services; engineering and construction of offshore accommodation facility; and provision for the upgradation of  an existing Stackable Lightweight Intervention Connector (SLIC) and well intervention system .
