Intercond - Marine Cables

Intercond has over 40 years' experience in manufacturing special cables to the highest quality and to most international standards. Our engineering department will work with our customers to design and develop new cables for various applications for their own market sector.

Among other fields, Intercond has a wide experience in manufacturing of cables for applications in the marine environment, like cables for seismic operations, ROV / tether cables, underwater camera cables used by marine geophysical survey contractors, requiring equipments to suit their individual deployment operation and data acquisition systems. Cables used in these extreme environments need to be reliable, durable and must guarantee the requested performances.

Seismic and sonar operations cables

Marine geophysical survey contractors require equipment to suit their own individual operations. All have the common purpose of mapping the oceans and their underlying sediments for a variety of purposes. Intercond is able to follow them with the relevant special cables.

We can produce cables for:

  • Streamers
  • Tow lead cables
  • Deck lead cables
  • Seabed cables
  • Boomer cables
  • Sonar cables

Underwater ROV / tether cables

Underwater technology, especially at great depths, is a challenge. ROV - used for underwater inspection, survey and search - requires cables with high performance and reliability for efficient and accurate control, as well as providing the necessary strength to support the vehicle itself. Intercond, with its knowledge and experience, can produce cables for:

  • Neutrally buoyant tethers
  • Kevlar-strength member cables
  • Composite fibre-optic and electrical tethers

Underwater camera and instrumentation cables

ROV may have manipulating arms, on-board tools, and lights and cameras. Underwater cameras offer the ROV industry an unparalleled choice in terms of features and performances, from miniature general-purpose observation cameras to high-resolution colour inspection cameras.

Cables for ROV may have different constructions, including both electrical and optical wires, depending on the job they have to perform. We can produce:

  • Video and communication cables
  • Power and signal cables
  • Lighting and control cables

Custom-designed cables

Our engineering department has the capacity to study and design cables to meet specific customer requirements. In our production facilities, various materials can be used to provide solutions to specific problems. Together with the customer, we decide the necessary tests to be carried out on cables, depending on the demands of their applications.

Offshore cable-testing facilities

We have extensive test facilities that are available to support Intercond’s product development. Tests are performed on raw materials, as well as throughout the production process and on the final product. Amongst Intercond's facilities is test equipments for dynamic movement, durability, abrasion resistance and flexibility, as well as machines developed for specific tests.

Any kind of electrical and mechanical test can be carried out satisfactorily:

  • Insulation resistance
  • Dielectric strength
  • Impedance, capacitance, inductance, attenuation, etc.
  • Transfer impedance
  • Material toxicity rate
  • Ageing in climate rooms (life test)
  • Flame and flame resistance
  • Pulling (tensile strength)
  • Wear and tear
  • Abrasion
  • Resistance under torsion
  • Endurance inside a chain cable-holder
  • Endurance under alternating bending
  • Crush
  • Pressure up to 200bar
