A victory and a commendation from three nominations – that is the impressive achievement of ContiTech Beattie at the presentation of the Manufacturing Excellence Awards (MX Awards) in June 2008 in London. The company won the prize for Business Development and Change Management, and there was a commendation for the People Development award. ContiTech Beattie was also nominated in the Process Innovation category.

The prize for Business Development and Change Management was won by ContiTech Beattie for achievement by a traditional family-run company of developing into a world market leader in the areas of flexible hoses, couplings and other liquid transport systems for the oil and gas industry – thanks to visionary management and clever investments in products, processes and staff.

According to the jury, a large part of the current success is due to the way the new management of the company further developed the capabilities of its employees and encouraged positive attitudes after some difficult years. ContiTech Beattie Limited received an additional commendation for this in the People Development category.

The company had already received recognition in 2007 for its efforts in the form of the “Investor in People” plaque.
The MX Awards organized by the British Institution of Mechanical Engineers for the last 26 years are equivalent to an industrial Oscar. The contestants must convince the jury in a tough three-stage process of the performance they have delivered.

Managing Director Andrew Esson comments: “In the last three years, our turnover has increased by 50% from £16 million to £24 million, and our employee levels have increased by 18% from 76 to 90 people in support of our increased turnover. These increases are a direct result of the business process transformation which we have undergone and has subsequently given us the confidence to embark upon the exciting MX process. We found the entry process quite challenging, thought-provoking and ultimately beneficial, as we had to think quite systematically about how we do things, and also what we have achieved.”

“Winning an award, and also a commendation, is an excellent validation of the progress which our company has made over the last three years.”
