Acutec to Introduce Life-at-Sea at AOG

Acutec will release its new life-at-sea product at Australasia's biggest offshore oil and gas show AOG 2011.

Employers are increasingly driven by the need to retain valuable skilled staff offshore. One way to help do this is by providing improved and freely available communications and entertainment.

In their free time, offshore staff can watch television, make and receive phone calls, access e-mails and social networking, visit banking sites and use all the other online services we now take for granted. The entertainment package can include Foxtel pay TV or the Australian Freeview service.

Life-at-sea is designed to be kept separate from the vessel's normal company VSAT communications system. In this way, security is assured and it is easy to correctly prioritise essential systems. The system uses cheaper, shared satellite bandwidth which can reduce overall communications costs.

The hardware and service packages are optimised for vessels and floating facilities from small support boats up to large 'flotels' or construction barges with hundreds of cabins.

AOG will be held at the Perth Exhibition Centre on 23-25 February with Acutec exhibiting on stand Z41.
