ShipConstructor Software

ShipConstructor Software - AutoCAD-Based 3D Ship Product Modeling, Production Planning and Data Management Software

ShipConstructor provides the most comprehensive, flexible and reliable software in the marine industry, designed to maximize design-build efficiencies for all kinds of ships and multi-team projects.

ShipConstructor provides world-class AutoCAD-based 3D ship product modeling, production planning and data management software solutions, including seamless compatibility with complementary industry-standard software such as Autodesk Navisworks, Inventor, Rhino, MaxSurf, Napa and MS SQL Server 2000 and 2005.

Offshore design and production planning

ShipConstructor 2008 was chosen to design the P-55 semi-sub production platform after extensive reviewing and testing by Sincronia, a Brazilian IT consultant and integrator for the offshore and shipbuilding sectors.

Sirconia found ShipConstructor to be the clear leader in terms of flexibility, customer support, pricing and its ability to meet the cutting-edge technology requirements of EAS. As it is easy to learn to use the ShipConstructor software, it expedites a fully operational 3D CAD/CAM engineering environment to meet project demands and production schedules.

Semi-sub production platform design

The P-55 semi-sub production platform being built for Petrobras has a production capacity of 180,000 barrels per day, and is destined to be anchored at the Roncador field at a depth of 1,790m, located within the Bacia de Campos. The P-55 hull construction alone will consume 21,000t of steel.

Flexible offshore design software

ShipConstructor’s software is being incorporated in a $200 million project involving designers, engineers and fabricators from around the world to produce a high-tech SPAR for operation in 5,600ft of water. The SPAR was designed by SparTEC of USA with the main structure built in the remote island of Batam, Indonesia, and the top-side built in the US.

Open database technology and ERP database integration

The SPAR project takes advantage of open database technology to link engineering data in ShipConstructor’s SQL server database with corporate ERP systems, including the Primavera P3e project management system. This turnkey engineer-procure-construct-install project demonstrates the powerful ERP database integration capabilities to enable complex rig construction in remote low-cost facilities.

Jack-up drilling rig design and production

When UAE-based Maritime Industrial Services won contracts to build a series of Super M2 jack-up drilling rigs requiring significant improvements in the usual equipment packages and design modifications to meet client specifications, ShipConstructor was immediately brought on board to construct them.

Efficient CNC capabilities

ShipConstructor has the capability to directly provide CNC information to the automatic cutting machines, drastically reducing plate nesting and component prefabrication time, in turn significantly improving efficiency.

FPSO turret design software

Sembawang undertook the modeling of the turret for the FPSO Berge Helene as a fast-track ShipConstructor pilot project. With only one week of user training, the project team was able to model the complex turret in less than two weeks. With each subsequent design iteration, the team was able to create a completely new 3D model of the turret in about one week.

Plate expansion and interference checking

The turret design consisted of many curved, thick steel plates requiring expansion and forming templates from ShipConstructor. These plates were also penetrated by riser tubes leading from the FPSO to the deep sea oil field, so full 3D modeling of the complete turret structure was imperative to ensure accurate plate cutting, plate forming, and structure and pipe interference checking.

2D and 3D drawing techniques

Dubai Drydocks left 2D techniques behind with ShipConstructor’s 3D product model, which consists of intelligent drawing objects connected to an integrated SQL server database. The project database, giving combined quantities, weight and CG while allowing for planning of pre-outfitting and assembly, formed the backbone of the conversion project.

Errors have been greatly reduced at Dubai Drydocks because the ISO spool pipe drawings are linked directly to the structural model and are generated and updated automatically, including a bill of materials, which list accessory items such as required bolts and gaskets. Minimal checking is required because ShipConstructor ensures that they will be consistent with the 3D model.
