SigmaKalon MPC has signed an Agreement with Leighs Paints to form a Strategic Alliance in the Hydrocarbon Passive Fire Protection sector.
The Strategic Alliance supersedes the successful Supply Agreement signed between the two companies in 2002. Under the old Agreement SigmaKalon marketed Leighs technology as Sigma FireBarr 2000. In future the material will be rebranded as Sigma Firetex M90 in recognition of the global strength of the Sigma and Firetex names.
Firetex M90 is a thick film exterior durable epoxy intumescent coating for the treatment of offshore structures, LPG storage tanks and other steelwork requiring fire protection from hydrocarbon and jet fires.
As part of the Strategic Alliance, SigmaKalon will be responsible for sales and marketing in most parts of the world with Leighs providing technical support and continuing to undertake R&D operations. Leighs will retain total responsibility in certain of their strategic territories such as the United Kingdom, Eire, Norway, Canada and several countries in the Middle East.
Initially, Leighs will manufacture Sigma Firetex M90 in their Bolton, UK factory. It is intended that, in due course, SigmaKalon will manufacture the product under licence in at least one of their own factories. Leighs will continue to manufacture and supply Leighs Firetex M90 in their retained territories.
The Strategic Alliance will combine the reputation of Leighs Paints and the strength of the Firetex brand in the hydrocarbon PFP sector with the global presence and extensive customer base of SigmaKalon in the MPC market to our mutual benefit.
