New Generation Offshore Multipurpose Vessel for GSP Drilling

Romanian drilling contractor GSP Drilling, member of the Upetrom Group, has awarded Dutch design office Sea of Solutions the design contract for a new DP3 multipurpose construction vessel. The new vessel will be unique in the world as it efficiently and economically combines three offshore operating capabilities in one vessel design: pipelaying, heavy lift operations and tender assist drilling operations.
Sea of Solutions performs the contract in close cooperation with Finnish engineering company Deltamarin. Both companies were involved in the Concept Design of the vessel and are currently working on the Basic Design.
The design is based on the robust and proven concept design of the Seabarge 3000 and fully customized to GSP Drilling’s requirements.
Currently there are no similar types of vessels in the market able to perform both construction works and deepwater tender assist drilling operations. Furthermore the vessel will be able to practical work in all geographic areas, including deepwater areas.
The vessel will be classed DP3 with a total of eight thrusters but will also have a mooring system. The 1800 mT main crane will be located at the starboard aft side of the vessel, allowing for free aft deck space to hook up a gangway in tender assist drilling mode.
Project manager Edwin van Leeuwen of Sea of Solutions, and Timo Granberg, sales manager at Deltamarin, are really pleased with the project. “Working on this unique vessel design with its specific operational requirements incorporate yet again incentives to the creativeness of both our companies where we are at our best”, says Edwin van Leeuwen.
Sea of Solutions develops projects for operators, contractors and ship owners in the exploration, construction and production market, as well as the maritime transport market. It is a private company providing products and services on an independent and confidential basis. Beside designs for newbuild vessels, the company is actively involved in upgrade and conversion projects for existing offshore vessels.
Deltamarin specialises in consulting, design and engineering from specific small tasks to complete engineering packages. Furthermore it’s involved in project concept development, contracting and project management including planning and procurement handling as well as operation support. Focused training and courses in ship and marine system engineering and operation are offered.
