IDEA is a specialist in the engineering and delivery of special and innovative products (and / or services) for the offshore, dredging, subsea and energy industry. The main fields of expertise covered by IDEA are:

• Offshore equipment: pipe laying, handling and cutting tools
• Pilling equipment: leaders and vibratory hammers
• Subsea equipment: ROV crawlers and tools

A typical IDEA project starts with a conceptual design and ends with the delivery of a working product or prototype.

DREDGING, SUBSEA AND ENERGY EQUIPMENT ENGINEERING AND TESTING

Designs are often engineered by emotions and therefore not well thought-through prior to production. This often results in a product which does not function according to the specifications. Starting a design with a good concept will result in a much higher chance for success whilst controlling costs to be within the estimated budget.

IDEA has just the right people and the right tools to accommodate this process. For new product designs we start off with a solid conceptual design stage. After this phase we proceed with a virtual prototype phase. In addition we can build real-life scale models (at low costs) for further detailed tests. These tests often enhance and clarify the analysed challenges. Another advantage of this approach is that there is a lot of usable product knowledge gained while the costs are relatively low.

COMPUTER AIDED ENGINEERING (CAE)

Our in-house capabilities for computer aided engineering are quite extensive and vary from 3D-CAD to Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and dynamic simulations. We can also produce 3D animations which are often used to support selling activities.

The CAE solutions used by IDEA are:

• 3D CAD; the activities may vary from modelling to the delivery of workshop drawings
• FEA based on existing 3D-models
• Dynamic systems analysis and motion simulation for analysing the complex behaviour of mechanical assemblies

PROTOTYPING, TESTING AND CERTIFICATION

There are clearly two types of prototypes: a virtual one and a real prototype. The virtual prototype always forms an essential part of our engineering approach. The reliability and success of a product are greatly enhanced by using this technology.

MANUFACTURING AND DELIVERY OF DREDGING, SUBSEA AND ENERGY EQUIPMENT

IDEA is not only able to engineer new products, but is also able to organise and take care of the hardware delivery of the engineered product. We have excellent relations with a group of preferred suppliers in the heavy equipment industry who are able to build and deliver the engineered products according to the specifications and within the set deadline.
