Solent Composite Systems Ltd (SCS) based in East Cowes, Isle Of Wight, announced that its ProTek™ composite fire and blast restraint enclosure fulfils the sound attenuation specification as laid out in the latest revision of Norsok standard R004 for Piping and Equipment Insulation. (Draft 1for Rev.3)

The tests were undertaken recently as result of SCS market research amongst Oil and Gas operators and construction companies in Norway. The tests were conducted by Sound Advice Acoustics an independent test house located in Hampshire, UK. The results surpass the highest level of the standard such that ProTek™ can be classified for use under categories 6, 7 and 8 for all pipe and valve diameters up to 42 inches.

In today's market where energy resources are increasingly critical, SCS has been playing a partnership role in assisting all energy producers, be they oil, gas, wind or tidal, to improve performance and safety, whilst reducing costs and in so doing establish the attractiveness of composites as a sustainable engineered solution for energy sources worldwide.

The philosophy of high performance composite engineering in very demanding environments has been led by SCS who develop innovative systems with world class safety and quality that fully satisfy these most stringent requirements.

The Company's ProTek™ PFP has been used extensively in several installations in the North Sea and most recently was specified for Statoil's Melkøya LNG plant in Hammerfest for fire jet fire and blast protection. It is expected that more successful applications for SCS ProTek will be announced in the coming months.

The Company's other main energy focus is in the burgeoning Renewable energy sector - wind, tidal stream and most recently micro-generation. For example, use of the SmartMould™ manufacturing system can significantly impact on driving down turbine blade costs both in process and capital investment especially in high output blade plants.

SCS holds ISO 9001 and the Norwegian Achilles JQS certification and its operations are in compliance with ISO 14001and OHAS 18001 DNV certification of an integrated management system for Quality, Health, Safety and Environment is expected before the end of 2006.

Solent Composite Systems (SCS) operates from four sites on the Isle of Wight.

SCS was nominated as Winner "Best New Business" at the prestigious IOW Chamber of Commerce Business Awards for Excellence 2005.

SCS is a member of the British Plastics Federation Composites Group, and both the EWEA and BWEA in support of its renewables activities. In 2006 SCS became a member of the Norwegian British Chamber of Commerce NBCC.
