Austal is the world leader in the design and construction of customised, high-speed aluminium patrol boats, police boats and multi-role vessels for both commercial and defence applications. With five shipyards now operating in Western Australia, Tasmania and the USA, Austal has delivered more than 200 vessels for customers around the world.

PATROL BOATS

Austal is able to provide patrol vessels to address a broad cross-section of needs for heightened security and surveillance of offshore resources, ports and coastal waters. Lightweight aluminium construction technology means lower engine powering and delivers economical operating characteristics. This results in efficient service and substantially reduced operating and maintenance costs.

Sizeable orders from clients such as the Australian Customs Service, the Royal Australian Navy, the Kuwaiti Coast Guard and the Republic of Yemen have established the company among the world's elite patrol boat suppliers.

POLICE BOATS

While often recognised for the increasing size of its vessels, Austal remains committed to serving both existing and new customers with smaller police boat requirements. An ongoing focus on design and competitiveness has seen Austal successfully deliver police boats ranging from 16m to 22m.

Austal’s powerful productive capacity allows fast delivery times for multi-boat orders, while its in-house design team ensures each vessel meets individual maritime security needs both efficiently and economically. Austal recently delivered six 16m police boats to the New South Wales water police in a little over 12 months from the date of order.

MULTI ROLE VESSELS (MRV)

For missions from border patrol to ASW to humanitarian relief missions, Austal's Multi-Role Vessels (MRV) provide a truly reconfigurable sea frame at an affordable price.

The Austal MRV seaframe is an innovative new design which utilises Austal’s proven trimaran hull concept. The same hull concept features in the 127m Austal-built vehicle ferry Benchijigua Express – currently operating in the Canary Islands – as well as the Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) Austal is building for the US Navy.

Austal has spent the past two years developing a platform which merges the characteristics of both its LCS and Armidale class patrol boat to create the MRV. This is an affordable and versatile platform with the capabilities to address multiple requirements.

The MRV’s optimised hull-form, light ship-weight, and large, flexible roll-on-roll-off mission / logistics deck allow it to be highly manoeuvrable and configurable to support a range of missions. These include offshore:

• Patrol
• High-speed troop deployment
• Amphibious assault operations
• Humanitarian support
• Search and rescue
• Anti-submarine warfare and mine hunting.

The MRV can be fitted with a comprehensive suite of self-defence capabilities, as well as systems-packaged mission modules and multi-mission helicopter capabilities.
