Peter Brotherhood - Providing Engineering Solutions for 140 Years

Peter Brotherhood Ltd prides itself on providing efficient and innovative engineering solutions for its customers worldwide.

The company designs and manufactures steam turbines, API 618 reciprocating gas compressors, gas engine based CHP systems and a wide range of special purpose machinery and supports them with an international spares and service organisation. Peter Brotherhood was established in 1867 and over the years has exported and installed equipment in more than 100 countries around the world.

The company conforms to the stringent quality assurance standard ISO 9001:2000 and environmental management standard ISO 14001:2004.

MARINE STEAM TURBINES AND FPSO SOLUTIONS

Peter Brotherhood Ltd specialises in the design, manufacture, installation and commissioning of steam turbines with power outputs from 1mW to 40mW. They are integrated with generators and other driven equipment from world-leading suppliers.

The company has considerable experience in steam turbine systems for combined cycle and cogeneration, district heating, industrial processes, sugar mills, oil and gas production, refineries, petrochemical plants, FPSO (floating, production, storage and offloading) vessels, waste heat recovery, marine and waste-to-energy.

Peter Brotherhood has been involved in the supply of steam turbines to the marine industry for over 90 years. Since undertaking pioneering work on recovering waste heat from diesel engines in the 1950s, the company has developed proven expertise in various energy-efficient applications.

Having considerable experience of marine standards, classification society requirements and petroleum industry standards, the company has found themselves in a unique position to provide steam turbines to FPSO vessels. Peter Brotherhood is the world’s leading supplier of steam turbines for FPSO vessels.

The use of such vessels for the recovery of offshore oil and gas is growing and Peter Brotherhood has supplied several steam turbines that ensure reliable and efficient power supplies. The company has supplied equipment up to 27mW to many of the world’s leading FPSO operators including Woodside, Single Buoy Moorings (SBM), Bergesen, Saipem, Aker Floating Production and Fred. Olsen Production.

In 2005, Peter Brotherhood supplied two 24mW condensing steam turbine driven generator sets to Bergesen d.y. ASA. They have been installed on board the Berge Helene FPSO and are operating in Woodside’s Chinguetti field off the coast of Mauritania.

In 2007 the company designed and manufactured two 27mW condensing steam turbine driven generator sets to Fred. Olsen Production. These two machines are the largest steam turbine driven generator sets to be installed on an FPSO vessel. They are currently being installed on the Knock Allan FPSO vessel which will be moored off the coast of Gabon.

Peter Brotherhood is currently producing a series of 20 turbo-compound sets, each incorporating a dual pressure steam turbine, power turbines (gas expanders) and gearboxes driving a generator. These machines provide the auxiliary power needs on partially refrigerated container ships.

GAS COMPRESSORS FOR THE OFFSHORE INDUSTRY

Peter Brotherhood has extensive experience of working with customers in the oil and gas industry offshore. The company has supplied compressors for a wide range of different applications including:

  • Fuel gas boosting
  • Gas export
  • Gas handling
  • Gas lifting
  • Gas re-injection
  • Gas storage
  • Gas treatment
  • Vapour recovery

Two reciprocating gas compressors and one 2.2mW steam turbine were supplied to BHP Petroleum in Australia for installation in the Jabiru Venture FPSO facility producing oil in the Timor Sea off Northern Australia.

ENGINEERING FACILITIES AND SERVICES

Peter Brotherhood’s large, modern, purpose-built plant with first class design and manufacturing facilities combined with a highly skilled workforce allows the company to offer high quality services. These same high quality services can be found in our engineering services department. The company’s experience extends from re-design, repair and refurbishment through to installation, commissioning and planned maintenance of a wide range of rotating equipment.

A dedicated Service Centre was established last year to service, repair and refurbish reciprocating and rotating machinery manufactured by Peter Brotherhood as well as other companies.
