Peter Brotherhood's world leading expertise in the design and manufacture of steam turbine driven generator sets for use on floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) facilities has led to the company securing two orders with Single Buoy Moorings (SBM) worth a total of £3.5 million.
The Peterborough, UK-based, company will design and manufacture two condensing steam turbine driven generator sets for FPSO vessels to be operated offshore Angola.
Peter Brotherhood has extensive experience in supplying these systems, which have to incorporate special features to enable them to operate reliably in a floating environment.
The geographic location in which the turbo-generator sets will be installed and the harshness of sea conditions that could be encountered are also considerations during the design process.
The two turbo-generator sets will generate 12MW and 14MW of power from steam raised by a central boiler. They will be built to American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) standards and delivered to the end user SBM in December 2006 and March 2007.
Peter Brotherhood won the order because of its capability and experience in designing and supplying systems for use on FPSO vessels. The company has already supplied six 12MW turbo-generator sets to SBM in a three year period.
Stephen Fitzpatrick, Peter Brotherhood's manager director said: 'We have secured a number of contracts with SBM in recent years. We have considerable experience of supplying steam turbines for FPSO vessels and these latest contracts have strengthened the company's position as a world-class supplier of this equipment.'
Peter Brotherhood has since 1981 been designing and manufacturing steam turbine driven generator sets for FPSO vessels moored off the coast of West Africa, Indonesia, Thailand, Brazil, Australia and in the North Sea.
