OFFSHORE HYDRAULIC SYSTEMS ENGINEERING

CUSTOMIZED HYDRAULIC CYLINDERS

Hunger Hydraulics is the specialist for designing customized hydraulic cylinders and complete hydraulic system solutions according to customers' needs.

PISTON ROD COATINGS

The climatic and environmental requirements of offshore applications demand special anti-corrosion coatings for piston rods. Hunger Hydraulics has successfully used piston rods in many offshore projects and, using that experience, has developed the Hunger PTA coating system.

The Hunger PTA piston rod coating system is a welded layer which provides full corrosion resistance to salt-water. The Hunger PTA system prevents salt-water ingress through to the base material and is also resistant to electro chemical corrosion effects.

Further advantages of Hunger PTA coating is its extremely high adhesion to the base material, high temperature resistance up to 800°C and very good wear properties. The welded layer can be applied to both carbon steel and stainless steel rods. The coating has a hardness of 43 HRC with a honed and polished surface finish of Ra= 0.15µm, providing good wear resistance and low friction properties for stick / slip free operation.

The PTA piston coating process has passed an extensive DNV test program verifying the extremely high corrosion protection properties. Another main advantage of the PTA layer compared to other coating systems is the possibility of local repair. Mechanically damaged areas can be rewelded on site with the repaired spots having the same performance as the original layer.
