Malm Orstad, established in 1946, is an independent subcontractor and specialised company in the mechanical sector for the offshore and onshore industry in Norway. We offer customers complete engineering, machining and assembly packages to simplify projects and provide a single point of contact. We provide problem-solving, troubleshooting, modelling, concept studies, detailed design and product development services on a daily basis.

Malm Orstad’s engineering department has broad experience in the fields of mechanics, hydraulics, pneumatics and control systems for the offshore and onshore industry. The close proximity of our engineers to the production facilities has proven crucial to producing the most functional solutions and the most cost-effective production solutions.

Offshore project management, machining, assembly and testing

Malm Orstad is able to handle complex projects from concept to finished product/project to delivery of complete and fully documented products.

Standard and custom offshore cylinders

With Malm Orstad’s in-house engineering staff, skilled workers and large stock of materials and parts, we deliver special cylinders at short notice and at reasonable prices. Our engineers are experienced in providing cylinders with special measurements, working pressure, material-quality requirements and other special solutions.

Our references include a number of stainless-steel and titanium cylinder deliveries, plus cylinders with special supports and areas of application.

Cylinders with linear-position indicators

Cylinders with linear-position indicators have been delivered to several subsea projects. When designing equipment that includes cylinders, it is an advantage to involve our company in the project as early as possible in order to achieve cost-effective solutions.

Tether management systems (TMS)

Malm Orstad developed TMS together with our customers over a long period of time. It is today one of the most reliable and simple TMS on the market. The TMS design ensures satisfactory spooling that is tether-friendly and extends its lifetime. Emphasis has also been placed on easy overhauling.

ROV shackle

Malm Orstad provides an ROV shackle with a robust design based on a standard certified shackle, equipped with a mechanical ROV-operated open/close function. This shackle enables the ROV to open and close the shackle bolt using a manipulator arm. It has been used on several occasions during operations in the North Sea.

Multi-quick connection

Malm Orstad provides a multi-quick connection (MQC) for subsea use. The MQC is used on subsea tools where several hydraulic operations are required. It has a guide system that makes ROV operation fast and simple.

Industrial swivels

Malm Orstad produces industrial swivels designed for large quantities of oil and high-pressure applications.

Hydraulic control panels

Malm Orstad has several designs for hydraulic operational control panels, which can be tailor-made to suit customers’ needs. In order to minimise the risk of operating failure, great emphasis has been placed on panels that are simple and easy to follow, and provide a comfortable working position for the operator.

Skid systems

Malm Orstad’s skid systems ensure safe and efficient logistics on-board boats and rigs without the use of a crane. A robust and simple design makes our skid systems the preferred solution for our customers. The skid system has been delivered for various weight classes and with a hydraulic operation panel and radio-control panel.

Hydraulic emergency stop valve

Malm Orstad has developed a hydraulic valve for use as an emergency stop function on hydraulic valves. It is easy to integrate into a hydraulic system and is mounted in a panel or on a board. At a time with strict HSE and CE marking requirements, this has become a standard component in our products.
