Bosch Rexroth is located in Boxtel, the Netherlands. Bosch Rexroth, established in 1954, supplies and manufactures high-quality products, systems and advanced technical solutions in the field of hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical and mechanical drive systems and related controls.

DRIVE AND CONTROL SYSTEMS

One of the main activities of Bosch Rexroth in Offshore is specialization in engineering and realization of drive and control systems, mainly for high loads in combination with dynamic movements. This includes fully functioning hydraulic, pneumatic, electric and mechanical drive systems, with related control and construction elements. In these projects, a range of drive and control technologies is often integrated.

HYDRAULIC CYLINDERS

Another core competence is in the design, manufacture and delivery of large and customized hydraulic cylinders, accumulators, and rotary joints for the world market. These well known hydraulic cylinders are engineered and manufactured to order within high quality standards. As leading supplier in the field of ABS (Application Based Standard) Hydro Cylinders, they continuously improve their cylinders with new technologies, for example with rod materials or position measuring, and in doing so continue to set the industry norm.

The ABS Hydro Cylinder designs are the result of extensive experience with large and special cylinders designed to meet application requirements and demands. The ABS cylinder designs form the basis for an integrated linear drive system solution. Design standards include certification according to ABS, DNV etc. Engineered to order hydraulic cylinders (bore up to 1,000mm, stroke up to 25m) are applied for:

  • Wire Line Riser Tensioner systems
  • Production Riser Tensioner systems
  • Direct Connected Riser Tensioner systems
  • Offshore Cranes
  • A-frames
  • Jacking systems
  • Skidding systems
  • Heave compensating systems
  • Piston accumulators
  • Chain Jacks

SYSTEM PACKAGES

System Packages are pre-engineered basic designs of Drive and Control systems for specific offshore applications. This basic design will be customized to the requirements as specified for a specific project. In other words, the performance requirements (forces, speed, dimensions, power, control philosophy etc.) will drive the actual design using the System Package basis (detailed project related engineering). System Packages/products supplied include, among others:

  • ~500 Marine Riser Tensioning Systems up to 250kips
  • ~50 Drill String Compensators up to 1,000kips
  • ~20 Skidding Systems up to 1,000t
  • ~30 Jacking-up Systems up to 3,000t per leg
  • ~20 Direct connected Riser Tensioner cylinders
  • ~2,000 Custom Built Hydraulic Cylinders for Offshore applications up to bore 1,000mm and stroke up to 25M

SPECIAL PROJECTS

Projects are generally for one-off systems, engineered for specific applications using a mix of the above System Package technology and ABS Hydro cylinders in combination with other necessary skills and disciplines.

A project commences with conceptual engineering to find the optimal solution. If the proposed concept is feasible and accepted the basic and detailed engineering follows.

Bosch Rexroth can carry out the project as the main contractor and will be a partner in a consortium where parts of the scope can be subcontracted to one of the consortium partners. A typical example of a project is the Jack-up of the Ekofisk platforms.
