Fugro Structural Monitoring is a specialist engineering consultancy which undertakes the measurement and monitoring of structures in-service. From system design, manufacture, installation through to data analysis, Fugro offers a complete quality-assured service. Fugro offers temporary and permanent measurement and monitoring of platform, vessel and riser response. Typically strain, displacement, acceleration and motions are measured.
We offer a range of systems for the measurement and monitoring of platform, vessel and riser response. Some standard systems are available but generally customised solutions are developed using appropriate sensors and instrumentation to suit the individual project requirements. Some examples are:
Optima-RMS is a riser management system offered jointly by MCS and Fugro. The system uses outputs from existing vessel systems to predict the behaviour of the riser in the prevailing metocean conditions. It provides real-time guidance to operational personnel allowing optimisation of drilling and workover operations. Key results are presented graphically in an intuitive display.
Optima options include riser-angle and strain instruments, online and offline simulators (drift off and hang off) and VIV measurements (see below). The system can be used on drilling risers and C/WO risers.
The Optima-RMS system ensures:
Even a very small saving in vessel time produces a major return on an investment in Optima-RMS.
Vortex Induced Vibrations (VIV) can have a significant effect on drilling operations. Fugro and MCS have developed Optima-VIVOL, a cost-effective means of monitoring VIV during drilling operations which minimises downtime.
The Optima-VIVOL system uses a small number of measurement pods clamped to the riser to provide real-time analysis of VIV effects. A topside computer displays the data with warning and alarm limits. This ensures the operator has a full understanding of the prevailing conditions, and avoids unnecessary down time while continuing to operate safely. Further details are available on request.
ON-LINE MONITORING (OLM)
The Fugro OLM system measures and analyzes the motions of a platform and detects significant changes to the platform's structural integrity by monitoring its natural frequencies. The response characteristics of the platform are compared with agreed criteria. OLM offers:
The Fugro tow monitoring system typically monitors heave, pitch, roll and fatigue of a jacket on a towed barge or heavy transportation vessel. Heavy lift parameters measured include heave, pitch, roll, crane boom motions and tilt.
The Fugro IMMS offers the user a single interface to the many vessel structural measurement subsystems that can be installed on FPSOs or tethered platforms. Subsystems may include mooring loads, hull stresses, motion, weather monitoring etc
FLOATING PRODUCTION SYSTEMS
Fugro provides specialised solutions for FPSO monitoring such as wave-slams, cargo tank loads and mooring loads.
ANCHOR / MOORING MONITORING SYSTEMS
Fugro offers a mooring monitoring system which is retrofittable - detection of mooring line failures are presented to the operator at a topside computer station which can be linked to the vessel SCADA system.
We routinely work in all overseas locations. Please contact us to find out how we can provide solutions to your specific requirements.
