"Ultrasonic" Flowmeter Excels in Hazardous Areas

The KATflow 160 ultrasonic flowmeter from Katronic Technologies has proved popular for applications in hazardous areas throughout the UK.
The innovative KATflow 160 is a purpose-built ATEX Zone 1 and 2 certified clamp-on ultrasonic flowmeter, designed to meet the stringent industry demands placed on explosion-proof equipment.
The KATflow 160 dual-channel flowmeter can be applied to all commonly used pipe materials with a diameter of 10mm to 6m. The meter electronics are protected by a rugged IP 66 enclosure and the stainless steel sensors can be supplied as IP 68 for applications where there is a risk of immersion.
Since the launch of the KATflow 160, the KATflow 160 has proved to be a success in a variety of industries and has been supplied to a series of applications including:
- Crude oil measurement
- Condensate measurement on offshore platforms
- Light Oil measurement on remote platforms

- Special measurement solutions for the pharmaceutical industry
The flowmeter is extremely quick and easy to install and can be retro-fitted to virtually any flow system. All programming is done using a magnetic pen meaning that there is no need to access the internal surfaces of the housing.
As the flowmeter is fully non-invasive, there is no contact between the sensors and the flowing media. Therefore there is no pressure drop, no risk of corrosion with aggressive media and no lost production during installation and commissioning.
Furthermore, the KATflow 160 incorporates a time programmable totaliser and average, total and differential flow calculators to minimise the work carried out by the operator.
