Alimak - Offshore Lifts for Men and MaterialsAlimak has been supplying Rack and Pinion lifts to the offshore industry since 1974 when it installed its first unit on an Aker H-3 design semi-submersible. Today about 500 Alimak lifts have been delivered into this specialized market. They are installed on derricks, flare towers, in hull columns, outside platform modules and underneath helicopter decks. The lifts replace potentially hazardous stairways and ladderways to provide convenient access to pump and machine rooms and other critical areas. The following is a list of recent orders: KVITEBJØRN DERRICK PERSONNEL LIFTA 450kg personnel lift for the derrick of Kvitebjørn fixed steel production platform. The lift will be explosion protected for Zone 2 operation and will be equipped with an ALC full collective car operating system. The total lifting height is 29m. VALHALL STEEL JACKETTwo Alimak access lifts with 1,200kg lifting capacity will be installed on this oil drilling rig in the North Sea. The lifts will be fitted on the outside of the rig and travel a distance of 11m and 18m respectively. Delivery is scheduled for the end of 2001. MAERSK SEMI-SUBMERSIBLE CONTRACTORBuilt by Keppel FELS in Singapore, the new Maersk semi-submersible will operate in the Caspian Sea starting 2003. There will be two Alimak access lifts in the hull columns with a lifting height of 30m and a transport capacity of 500kg. SNORRE BThree Alimak lifts are installed in the hull columns of the Snorre B semi-submersible. The twin-masted lifts have a capacity of 6,000kg and are the biggest lifts that Alimak has ever supplied to the offshore industry. When used in normal operation, the capacity will be restricted to 1,500kg at a speed of 0.65m/sec. By downrating the speed to 0.3m/sec the necessary 6,000 kg capacity can be achieved to transport pumps up the leg for overhaul. The lifts are provided with variable frequency drive (VFC). The lifting height of the lifts is 40m and there are four landings into the stairway. ADVANTAGES OF ALIMAK RACK AND PINION LIFTS
