KONE, a global leader in the elevator and escalator industry, has been selected by Eni Norge to provide five unique elevators onboard the Goliat floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) unit. Goliat is the first oil field to be developed in the Norwegian sector of the Barents Sea.
KONE will provide specially designed elevators to ensure the smooth flow of people and goods onboard the offshore installation. Four of the solutions are energy-efficient KONE MonoSpace® machine-room-less elevators, and a fifth solution is a KONE MiniSpace™ with a compact machine room. All the elevators are designed to operate around the clock in very demanding conditions.
"We are proud that our tailored and durable elevator solutions have led to another contract for a demanding offshore installation," says John Hemgård, head of marine business at KONE.
Hyundai Heavy Industries is responsible for the provision of the floating production facility for Goliat. Production in the Goliat field is expected to start at the end of 2013.
