Offshore cranes and load handling systems

West Marine Engineering designs and manufactures cranes with a capabilities range up to 2,500tm. The range of cranes and load handling systems we supply includes:

  • Hydraulic cylinder luffing pedestal cranes (knuckle, telescopic and fixed boom cranes)
  • Rope luffing lattice boom offshore cranes
  • Subsea handling offshore cranes
  • ROV launch and recovery systems
  • Rescue boats / FRC davits

Throughout years of experience and feedback, combined with in-house technical expertise, we minimise the footprint of our cranes, as well as standardise the cranes' components to ensure easy and friendly maintenance for our customers.

Active heave compensation systems

The active heave compensation system, or AHC, is a crucial system enabling cranes to work under adverse offshore conditions. This system will actively compensate any roll, heave and pitch experienced by the vessel while operating under adverse sea conditions. Our AHC will compensate up to 12m of movement.

Mast rope luffing cranes

This type of crane mainly consists of the kingpost; with this structure taking up the load, it can be designed to handle larger loads. This type of crane is suitable for floating offshore applications. The power source for this crane can either be electro-hydraulic or diesel-hydraulic, depending on the applicable working environment.

Subsea handling crane

Subsea handling cranes are used to handle equipment under sea and can sometimes go down to a few hundred metres deep. Water currents pose challenges to the equipment handling process, hence the design of the crane must be able to deal with these. Subsea handling cranes are mostly knuckle boom type, where it gives flexibility in handling subsea equipment.

ROV launch and recovery systems (LARS)

We design and build our LARS to handle simple survey to heavy-duty work class ROVs. The LARSs are designed to the bespoke standards of our customers, and are built to the strictest rules and requirements.

Hydraulic cylinder luffing cranes

The basic range of deck cranes we offer covers various types of applications onboard. These types of cranes can be remotely operated, utilising hydraulic cylinders to actuate the boom movements, and are most commonly used onboard. They are either hydraulic pump driven or diesel-electric driven. Our cranes can be certified by all major classification societies and meet all relevant standards.

Rescue boat and fast rescue craft davits

Our goal is to provide customers with a compact, reliable and quality rescue boat / fast rescue craft davit system, which has a balance between safety factory and economic factor. So far we have delivered over 300 units of all kinds of davit systems to major OSV operators.
