Mobil SHC 500 hydraulic oils, in addition to being designed to help oil and gas companies operating in Arctic conditions to improve safety, productivity and sustainability, have been proven to offer energy efficiency benefits in hydraulic equipment.

Compared to standard mineral hydraulic oils, Mobil SHC 500 can help reduce hydraulic system energy consumption by up to 6.2%, and as a result will display the company’s proprietary ‘Energy Efficiency’ logo on packaging.

The Mobil SHC 500 Series has been engineered to help protect hydraulic equipment operating on offshore and onshore oil and gas rigs, located in extremely cold climates such as the Arctic, Russia and Nordics.

At -40ºC Mobil SHC 500 is four times thinner than similar viscosity index conventional mineral hydraulic oils, allowing it to circulate around the hydraulic system faster at start up, ensuring the lubricant is in place to protect machine components. For hydraulic equipment operating in even colder conditions, ExxonMobil offers specialised products such as Mobil Univis HVI or Mobil Aero HF-A.

Mobil SHC 500 is part of the Mobil SHC brand of high performance synthetic lubricants, which have been formulated to help oil and gas companies operating in extreme environments to reduce unscheduled downtime and maximise productivity.

The Mobil SHC range includes gear, bearing, compressor, turbine and gas engine oils, which alongside their cold temperature performance and energy efficiency potential, have been developed to help extend the service life of machine components and last between three-to-six times longer than mineral oil based products, helping reduce maintenance shutdowns.

"Safety is the number one concern for oil and gas companies and by reducing scheduled and unscheduled maintenance, you eliminate the associated safety risks that engineers face when undertaking the work," said Akram Reda, industrial lubricants marketing advisor – Europe Africa Middle East, ExxonMobil Lubricants and Petroleum Specialties.

"Alongside the safety benefits, significant productivity and sustainability improvements can also be realised by extending equipment life and oil drain intervals."

In addition to Mobil SHC 500, other high performance lubricants developed for the oil and gas industry, include:

• Mobil SHC 600 Series – Mobil SHC 600 oils can deliver a service life up to six times longer than competitive mineral oil-based gear and bearing lubricants. The range also demonstrates outstanding low temperature fluidity to enable start up and operation at low temperatures, as well as excellent resistance to rusting and corrosion for equipment protection.

• Mobil SHC Pegasus Series – natural gas engine oils which help to reduce fuel consumption by up to 1.5% and have the potential to increase oil drain intervals to more than 16,000 hours – four to eight times that of standard natural gas engine oils.

• Mobil SHC Gear Series – high-performance gear oils that deliver extended oil life up to six times compared to standard mineral gear lubricants. Mobil SHC Gear oils also demonstrate excellent water-handling properties, enhanced resistance to micropitting fatigue, improved seal compatibility and outstanding shear stability.

• Mobil SHC Polyrex Series – Mobil SHC Polyrex greases provide a combination of low and high temperature performance, excellent water resistance and balanced wear protection. Mobil SHC Polyrex greases are highly resistant to water and have excellent corrosion protection providing added protection to equipment in wet environments.

Alongside its high quality lubricants, ExxonMobil Lubricants and Petroleum Specialties offers its proprietary online oil analysis service, Signum Oil Analysis. Signum enables operators to proactively monitor the condition of lubricants and address conditions which have the potential to lead to unscheduled downtime and increased costs.

At ONS North Seas 2012, ExxonMobil Lubricants and Petroleum Specialties showcased their extensive offer of advanced lubrication solutions.
