The GEDORE Werkzeugfabrik Otto Dowidat KG has signed a partnership with the Ernst-Moritz-Arndt grammar school in Remscheid. The goal is to attract interested youngsters in the region to the company.

Co-operation between schools and companies in the region has been a long time in the planning. Finally, on April 10th 2008, the participants met at the Ernst-Moritz-Arndt school to sign the agreement.

"This is an important step for the local economy," said Dirk Stange the finance director at GEDORE. "We`ve got to familiarize the children earlier with working life. Lots of students who apply for an apprenticeship training position have not gathered any experience in a company."

This is no longer up-to-date as the demands on the trainees are increasing. Along with this come the difficulties of the low birth rate, which is reflected in the quality and quantity of applications.

The companies taking part in co-operation with the Ernst-Moritz-Arndt-grammar school want the students to be prepared for the requirements as well as the possibilities of their future working lives. Therefore the program is aimed at not only acquiring teaching methods, but also at introducing students to the contents of the individual occupational fields. Besides this, the students will gain specific as well as practical insights into the respective companies. During the practical training the students will have permanent contact persons and substantial documentation, so that it will not be comparable to the customary training, according to Stange.

The basis for the corporate success at GEDORE is the education of people's values and skills. Senior management will primarily be taken from the company's own ranks because, in family businesses in particular, it is essential that the executives fit into the overall picture of the company. Their own gain should not stand in the foreground, but instead they should focus on their responsibility to the employees.

In order to receive the know-how of the company, internal training in commercial as well as technical occupations has been reinforced for years by GEDORE. Across Germany at this time 75 adolescents are being trained in 14 different occupations.

Besides GEDORE, The Deutsche Bank, Mercedes Benz, Schrick and Kukko signed the partnership agreement.
