GL Expands Business in Scandinavia

07 July 2009

Germanischer Lloyd's expanding business in Sweden yet again required larger office areas. The new and extended office facilities in Gothenburg have opened today. They now house both the GL Station Gothenburg, as well as part of the Area Scandinavia Business Development organisation serving the clients with services for newbuilding and ships in operation. The Gothenburg Station is a busy one with everyday Fleet in Service surveys, as well as specialised surveys such as main engine fuel conversions. In addition, activities in the certification of materials and components and wind energy technology are steadily increasing.

From 1 June 2009 Mr Robert Edner began his role as managing director of GL Sweden AB and acting country manager. Mr Edner is a naval engineer and since January 2007 has served for GL Norway, as well as station manager Gothenburg during 2008. Mr Edner has previously worked at the Inspectorate of the Swedish Transport Agency in Stockholm. He has also served in engineering positions with shipping lines, such as Star Cruises from 1997 to 2003. Mr Edner succeeds Mr Roger Lundgren who now resumes his full time senior surveyor position.

Germanischer Lloyd continues to extend its strong network in Scandinavia serving shipyards, supply industry and shipping companies. The classification society and technical assurance and consulting company is present in Stockholm/Akersberga, Gothenburg and Karlstad in Sweden, Turku and Helsinki in Finland, Oslo, Alesund and Bergen in Norway, Copenhagen, Alborg, Arhus and Fredericia in Denmark and Reykjavik in Iceland.
