Global maritime and offshore oil and gas engineering company Harris Pye has completed planned maintenance and upgrades on Husky’s SeaRose floating production and storage (FPSO) vessel, the first to be dry-docked in the UK in 12 years. Working for Harland and Wolff (H&W) at their Belfast repair dock, the Harris Pye team worked 24/7 to complete all works in under 28 days.

The 272m-long, 45m-wide FPSO is operated by Husky Energy at the White Rose oil field, 350km off the Newfoundland coast. Prime contractor H&W dedicated its Belfast repair facility and resources so that the vessel could undergo an FPSO off station programme (OSP), where planned maintenance and upgrades were completed in dry dock.

H&W awarded Harris Pye the contract to carry out all major topside works, which included specialist piping and turret system upgrades. Having previously completed similar projects, they were also tasked with additional works such as the installation of a new deepwell pump system and the refurbishment of the turret lower bearing’s and utility swivel seals.

"We were delighted to have been awarded this project by Harland and Wolff, and to have completed it in such a timely fashion" says Harris Pye’s group technical director, Chris David. "Working with H&W was a very positive experience, and we look forward to developing our relationship, and to working with them again in the near future."

"Our work on the SeaRose clearly demonstrates our experience and capabilities in the repair of FPSOs – our excellent project management, quality of services and speed of turnaround," comments Mr David.

Harris Pye was involved in pioneer projects when FPSOs and FSOs were still experimental in the 1980s. The company had key inputs to the development of safe use of dual fuel for boilers and the safe and practical application and installation. "We have been involved in more than 45% of the world’s FPSOs ever converted or new built," confirms Mr David.

Harris Pye operates globally on a 24/7 basis and with 19 offices worldwide, offers full vessel repair and conversion services – including in situ. Over the past twelve years the company has built an enviable reputation in the oil and gas sector.

"Our approach to turnkey projects and repairs offers very definite advantages to this vitally important sector", explains Mr David. "We know how important it is to be able to provide a one-stop shop with speed and efficiency of response at its core."

The benefits must clearly be visible to Harris Pye’s offshore oil and gas clients, as company turnover in the sector has soared by over 90% in the last five years. Company turnover as a whole has risen by over 65% since 2006, and by 32% in the last year alone(2010 to 2011).
