MDR Certification Engineers - Plant Risk-Potential and Industrial Pressure Equipment Inspections

MDR Certification Engineers has been providing project support services for the oil and gas industry in Australasia for the past five years. MDR categorizes, assesses, informs and manages risk potential when conducting welding procedures, pressure equipment inspection, welding inspection, certification or non destructive testing. MDR can advise and offer alternatives and solutions to eliminate or manage the most critical operating risk potentials.

Compliant inspection and certification of fabricated items

MDR Certification Engineers provides a professional service for the inspection and certification of fabricated items on behalf of the client. The fabrication processes are inspected for compliance to the respective codes and specifications. This ensures fabrication compliance to quality management guidelines and the delivery of a quality endorsed product.

Quality management requirements for fabricated items are inspected, certified and documented by experienced quality managers and qualified welding inspectors with experience in the oil and gas and mining industries.

Plant risk-based inspection

Risk-based inspection (RBI) provides a methodology of resources to assess and maintain equipment integrity based on their risk levels.

Industrial pressure equipment inspection

MDR Certification Engineers is NATA-certified for inspections on industrial pressure equipment and machinery. MDR can inspect a range of pressure equipment, including:

  • Boilers
  • Steam pressure vessels
  • Vessels with quick actuating closures
  • Fired heaters
  • Water heaters
  • Compressed-air containing vessels
  • Static storage tanks
  • Storage tanks
  • Process vessels
  • Auxiliary vessels
  • Static low temperature vessels
  • Pressure piping
  • Transportable vessels

For pressure equipment, MDR tests to the following standards:

  • Fabrication inspection codes AS 4037, AS1210, AS3920.1 and AS4041
  • Fabrication inspection of pressure vessels and piping to hazard levels A, B, C, D and E
  • In-service inspection code: AS/NZS 3788

Compliant inspection planning and scheduling

MDR Certification Engineers provides clients with the ability to make their inspection and testing schedule compliant with the relevant code. For instance, plants needing several types of inspections may need heat treatment, hydrostatic testing, X-ray and metallurgical examination to be compliant to the respective code. Having experienced personnel able to perform these roles can be a contributing factor when planning a successful project.

Welding inspection

MDR Certification Engineers carries out welding inspection to ensure the fabrication process has been conducted in accordance to the specification. This may include checking the welder has been qualified, the welding procedure and parameters are correct for the material being welded, the welding consumable has been prepared correctly, and a range of other checks that need to be carried out to ensure quality control in the process. Welding inspection also requires the traceability and documentation to be completed.

NDT inspection and supervision

Using the knowledge of qualified and experienced NDT personnel, MDR Certification Engineers provides NDT services and supervision to assist with site maintenance and shutdown inspections. MDR’s qualified staff are familiar with the new inspection technologies and can advise on the best applicable techniques such as eddy current, IRIS inspection or time-of-flight inspections, which could be used to provide vital information for the inspection results for your plant and pressure equipment. This includes:

  • Radiography of welds, castings, thickness profile and other metal components
  • Ultrasonic testing of welds, castings, forgings and thickness mapping / survey, tanks, vessels and pipelines
  • Surface inspection techniques using magnetic particle, penetrant, visual and remote visual techniques
  • Eddy current testing of tubes, welds, bolt holes, gears and material sorting
  • Magnetic flux leakage tank-floor testing of bulk storage tanks
  • Vacuum box testing of tank-floor bottoms and floor-to-shell seams
  • Iris inspection

Coating inspection

MDR Certification Engineers’ coating inspectors are familiar with the limitations that various coating may have for their intended specific use. From HDPE coating for below-ground piping to food-grade coating for water storage and grain silos, MDR coating inspectors have the knowledge, skills and experience to ensure the application process is in accordance with the specification, limiting the exposure to NCRs and therefore the insurance risk for your project.

MDR’s coating inspection services include:

  • Blasting and cleaning surface checks
  • Humidity and surface temperature application tests.
  • Upper and lower ambient temperature applications records
  • Paint batch recording and application processes
  • Coating thickness testing
  • Holiday (porosity) testing
  • Coating adherence tests
  • Surface roughness and finish checks
  • Client completion and acceptability records
