OMS senior design engineer Jack Parlance

Jack Parlane, a senior design engineer at Stansted-based Optical Metrology Services (OMS), is celebrating a career milestone having achieved Chartered Engineer status.

The status is recognition from the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) of Jack’s industry experience, professionalism and commitment to engineering.

Having graduated from the University of Glasgow with a master’s degree in product design, Jack started his engineering career at OMS in 2007. Since then, he has developed his skills and been involved in key projects within the business, designing bespoke mechatronic systems that help solve pipeline challenges across the globe.

Jack commented: "It’s a real honour to reach this point in my career where I can call myself a chartered engineer. It cements all of my hard work and experience to date. As someone who truly enjoys engineering, I really hope this inspires others within OMS and the wider industry to progress careers in this sector. There’s a real skills gap in engineering and I believe that if people understood how varied, challenging and rewarding this kind of career can be, then we’d be able to tackle this issue."

Denise Smiles, CEO of OMS, added: "The whole team at OMS would like to pass on their congratulations to Jack. He’s worked hard towards achieving his Chartered Engineer status and is truly passionate about his work – he’s a credit to the business."
