Lord of the Rings – 27-ton rings of up to 5.6 meters diameter from Ensheim Rolling Mill

Ensheim (hgd). When the rocket carrier Ariane is launched into the sky from Kourou in French Guyana and starts on its prescribed orbit in space, there will also be forgings from the Ensheim forging experts on board. For many years BRÜCK® in Saarbruecken has been supplying finished rings with a diameter of 3,900 mm for this rocket carrier.

In close cooperation with specialists at ESA, the European space authority, the experts at BRÜCK® develop and manufacture seamless rolled rings from stainless steel for use in space travel. It is not only their comprehensive know-how but also the highly refined state-of-the-art rolling technology at their production location in Ensheim which assists them in this task.

Large Forgings Are Daily Work At BRÜCK®

Since 1923 the headquarters of BRÜCK® has been in “quiet” Ensheim, part of Saarbruecken since 1974. Unsuspecting visitors can hardly believe that those involved in international chemical and petrochemical industries, off- and onshore industries and in power station construction, come here to exchange ideas with the men of action at BRÜCK®.

However, when they enter the extensive premises and see what dimensions are technically feasible, they then know why BRÜCK® is one of the most respected specialists in the forging business. Ring rolling mill # 5, to name but one mill where seamless rings with a maximum diameter of 5,600 mm and an individual weight of up to 27 tons and a height of 1,750 mm can be rolled, is by itself very impressive and at the same time, proves that BRÜCK® is the specialist worldwide for large forgings.
