OFFSHORE POWER GENERATION

The North Sea is a particularly hostile environment for power generation equipment, and it was in this area that Tilsley and Lovatt gained their experience. However, the same basic principles apply to offshore installations anywhere in the world, where the main differences are the upper and lower extremes of temperature.

Not only must equipment be able to cope with extremes of temperature, the ravages of driving rain and a salt water atmosphere, it is also essential that any plant is able to operate reliably and safely in this environment for long periods and without intervention.

With the increasing tendency for unmanned installations there is also a requirement for plant to operate for extended periods between servicing. Reliability can only be achieved by the selection of the highest quality components and attention to specialist designs, which take into account these fundamental requirements.

Such design features include stainless steel enclosures with IP56 protection, special filtration for fuel and oil, extended lube oil capacity, multiple starting systems, vibration isolation, inbuilt fire protection systems and remote control interfaces.

The provision of quick-release power, control and fuel connections, to enable change out time to be reduced to the minimum for either routine servicing or major overhaul are other facilities often considered essential.

DIESEL AND GAS POWERED GENERATORS

Emergency generators are normally diesel powered. However, for other applications diesel may not be the only consideration. The choice of fuel is dependant on a number of factors, such as the availability of good quality gas on the platform, this is associated with accessibility and the cost of the delivery of fuel.

Each fuel has its own design considerations. Tilsley and Lovatt has the expertise to produce high quality, reliable plant, whatever the source of energy.

DIESEL GENERATOR PACKAGES

Tilsley and Lovatt manufacture and supply main power, emergency and fire pump diesel generators ranging from 20kWe to in excess of 3MWe, 50Hz or 60Hz with corresponding operating voltages. These are supplied as single running units, multiples to operate in parallel or for mutual standby. They can be housed in existing modules or supplied in weatherproof acoustic enclosures that are often fabricated in stainless steel with IP56 or A60 levels of protection.

GAS GENERATOR PACKAGES

As the sole UK distributor for Waukesha gas engines, Tilsley and Lovatt has the full support of a world recognized manufacturer, together with all the necessary in house facilities, spare parts and factory trained technicians to be able to offer a comprehensive service for gas engines used in both power generation and compression applications. The factory has a special gas supply to enable FAT of gas engines as well as diesel units.

Tilsley and Lovatt have offshore certified mechanical and electrical technicians and can undertake repairs and complete overhauls both in situ and at the works. Comprehensive maintenance contracts, training and spare parts are also provided.
