Kongsberg Maritime, Process Simulation Unit - Dynamic Simulation Studies, Process Simulators and Production Management SystemsKongsberg Maritime, Process Simulation Unit (including former Fantoft Process Technologies – now a part of Kongsberg Maritime) is a leading supplier of dynamic process simulation services and systems for the development and operation of oil and gas fields, LNG plants, transportation pipelines and chemicals plants. Our dynamic process simulation tools, ASSETT and D-SPICE, are the basis for the business areas; Dynamic Simulation Studies, deliveries of Process Simulators for engineering, DCS checkout and training of operators, and real-time Production Management Systems. Our dynamic process simulation tools cover the total chain of value by full reutilization of all simulation models, from field development to plant operations. In June 2006, Kongsberg Maritime (Kongsberg) acquired 100% of the shares of Fantoft Process Technologies AS (Fantoft). Kongsberg and Fantoft have now been merged with the aim to establish a world-leader in the field of dynamic process simulation and related tools and services. The name of the new business unit is Kongsberg Process Simulation. DYNAMIC SIMULATION STUDIESKongsberg Process Simulation has carried out dynamic simulation studies for around 20 years, and has gained unique experience through numerous references from a wide variety of process systems and equipment. We use dynamic simulation as a tool to improve process design and solve operational problems in new and existing plants. The findings are summarized in reports with conclusions and recommendations to the client. Kongsberg Process Simulation holds a staff of highly qualified process experts, and the use of our lifecycle simulator in daily simulation study activities assures a well-proven and flexible tool. PROCESS SIMULATORSKongsberg Process Simulation delivers complete process simulator setups for engineering, DCS checkout and training of operators, including hardware, software, documentation, training courses etc. The Operator Training Simulator (OTS) solutions include instructor interfaces and operator stations, and are generic (typical), emulated (realistic copy) or stimulated, i.e. the process model is linked to a software version of the real Distributed Control System (DCS). We have proven links to Kongsberg’s process control system called AIM and to numerous control systems and 3rd party software packages like ABB, Emerson, Honeywell, Invensys, Siemens and Yokogawa. PRODUCTION MANAGEMENT SYSTEMSKongsberg Process Simulation delivers model-based Production Management Systems (PMS) for single- and multiphase pipelines, comprising a broad range of real-time calculation and monitoring functions like leak detection and location, look-ahead simulations, scraper tracking, inventory management, hydrate formation monitoring, liquid slug tracking, as well as tools for planning and optimisation. A PMS is a model-based online application connected to the real plant via the DCS. It continuously receives live measurements and, based on this, runs the dynamic model in parallel with the actual process. It calculates additional information on top of the DCS system like virtual metering, pipeline profiles (window-into-the-pipeline) etc. The computer can run faster than real time, i.e. look-ahead simulations (window-into-the-future) and predict and avoid critical events.
