6th Offshore Wind Workshop

SeaRoc Group, experts in renewable energy since 2002, was invited by ClassNK to present at the sixth Offshore Wind Workshop, to share their knowledge, expertise and SeaPlanner marine management software to the emerging Japanese market.

The seminar was attended by 200 industry professionals, which was held at the University of Tokyo, Japan on 17 December 2015. Business development manager Dominic Stratton presented alongside Hirofumi Takano of ClassNK, providing the audience with key industry intelligence and guidance on how to make an offshore wind project financially viable.

With 14 years operational experience in the European market, SeaRoc was invited to join the lineup of presenters to provide information on their services and how the SeaPlanner solution could be used for effective project management, reducing project risk, making a project insurable and Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) management.

Dominic Stratton commented: "We were honoured to be invited to present at this event. We’ve worked closely with ClassNK in recent months, verifying them in publishing guidelines for offshore wind farms in Japan as a basis for project certification. It’s an achievement to be recognised for our vast experience in offshore wind, and we were delighted to be able to share our knowledge and solutions with other professionals who are growing in this sector."

The Japanese market is going through a period of change as the government, business and consumers shift more towards renewable energy for country’s greater long-term energy security with a particular emphasis on offshore wind. In July 2015, Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) announced renewable energy will account between 22% and 24% of the total energy supply mix by 2030.

With this focus, Japan’s renewable energy organisations and bodies are looking to learn from other companies across the globe who have in depth experience and industry successes.
