Semco Maritime has been awarded an important role in the construction of the world's first circular, floating drilling platform, currently being built in China by Sevan Marine ASA, Norway.

Semco Maritime has been a partner on this technically challenging project, and is responsible for technical design of electric equipment, instrumentation, automation, F&G, telecommunications and navigation.

Lead engineer Sigfred Jensen explains, that Semco Maritime's primary role is to make sure that subcontractors comply with the terms and conditions laid out in the contract, and that all systems interface and function together. He points out that Semco Maritime took on this task with very short notice last autumn, and so far work is progressing according to plan. While the project is ongoing, staff from Semco Maritime will be embedded in the Sevan Marine project team.

The platform has a hull diameter of 75 meters and will when finished undertake drilling on a depth of 3000 meter in the Gulf of Mexico. The circular shape makes the platform very stable and increases carrying capacity significantly, thus improving drilling productivity.

It is a Dynamic Position 3 unit, kept in position by means of eight thrusters.
