Cosalt - Critical Marine Safety Equipment for the Offshore Industry

Cosalt is one of Europe's leading providers of critical safety equipment to the offshore industry. The company supplies, inspects, tests and maintains a wide range of marine safety equipment, lifting gear, rope, rigging, tools and height safety products.

The company's origins date back to 1873 when it provided a range of products to help fishermen work efficiently and safely. Today, Cosalt's long and illustrious history serves to underpin a unique understanding of what it takes to look after people in the most demanding offshore environments, whether they are working on an oil platform, offshore wind farm or a crew transfer vessel.

Offshore safety equipment, lifting gear and height safety products

Cosalt is one of the few marine safety companies with the resources to coordinate the supply and servicing of safety equipment across Europe. It operates a European-wide business network that spans 25 separate locations. Seventeen of these bases are fully approved life raft, lifejacket and immersion suit service stations.

Subsea and umbilical cable testing facilities

At the heart of Cosalt's offshore servicing capability in the UK is the 40-strong team of skilled engineers, riggers, technicians, sales, administration and support staff who work at Cosalt's Lowestoft branch. The branch runs a rigging workshop, engineering department and hire department. In addition, it operates the largest horizontal test bed in the south-east of England. This 250t facility is used extensively to test subsea and umbilical cables for key offshore installations.

Marine safety equipment

Cosalt's customers often purchase a package of products and services that includes marine safety, fibre and wire rope, lifting tackle, inspection and testing, height safety equipment and power tools.

In addition to servicing marine safety equipment, Cosalt can supply everything from life rafts, lifejackets and survival suits, right through to electronic EPIRBs, pyrotechnics, lifebuoys, rescue lines, man overboard recovery devices and first aid kits. The company also repairs and refurbishes RIBS and fast rescue craft.

Marine safety products for the offshore industry

For many years Cosalt has been at the forefront of developing new marine safety products for the offshore industry. Indeed, subsidiary company Crewsaver is recognised as one of the world's foremost designers and manufacturers of lifejackets. The company has a range of products designed to deliver increased performance in the most demanding environments.

For example, the new Seacrewsader 2010 lifejacket provides 290N buoyancy for added protection when wearing heavy work gear and is suitable for use with most immersion and abandonment suits. It meets SOLAS 2010 regulations (MSC200(80)). The new Crewfit Twin 2010 lifejacket also meets the latest SOLAS 2010 regulations and, like the Seacrewsader 2010, it features a new unique inflation chamber and offers improved body angle, mouth freeboard and face plane angles.
