MEDC - Explosion Proof Alarm, Signal, Control and Communications Equipment

Designers and manufacturers of alarm, signal, control and communications equipment since 1975, MEDC have developed a range of products specifically designed for harsh environmental conditions and where there is a risk of explosion due to the presence of flammable atmospheres both offshore and onshore.

MEDC have pioneered the use of glass reinforced polyester (GRP) in explosion-proof products. The advantages of GRP products are that a lower capital cost combined with minimal maintenance and extended lifetime lowers the cost of ownership. The innovative use of GRP has now been extended to include a range of uncertified (safe area) equipment for use in harsh industrial and marine environments.

Explosionproof products include manual call points, status lamps, beacons / strobes, sounders / horns, alarm bells, speakers, heat detectors, control units, control stations, control panels, junction boxes, terminal boxes, distribution panels / boards, motor starters and helideck / obstruction lights.

Products are available in a range of certifications including ATEX, UL, CSA, GOST R & K and Chinese approvals. A wide variety of these products is held in stock for despatch within 24 hours of ordering.

In addition to its wide variety of explosionproof products, MEDC also offer a range of uncertified equipment for harsh industrial and marine environments and the Next Two range of loudspeakers for safe areas / interiors.

EXPLOSIONPROOF MANUAL CALL POINTS

These products are available in breakglass and pushbutton versions. These explosion-proof call points are available as intrinsically safe (EExia), flameproof (EExd) versions. Uncertified versions are available for harsh industrial and marine safe area applications. Many options are available including body colour, lift flaps and resistors.

EXPLOSIONPROOF STATUS LAMPS

These versatile status lights are available with LED, Xenon, filament and fluorescent lights. Explosion-proof and uncertified versions are available.

EXPLOSIONPROOF BEACONS / STROBES

These certified beacons are suitable for use where a light weight combined with corrosion resistance and strength is required. Beacons are available in LED, Xenon, rotating, beacon / sounder combination and steady beacon versions. Several MEDC products are suitable for helideck, perimeter and obstruction lighting.

EXPLOSIONPROOF SOUNDERS / HORNS

Our range of lightweight, flameproof sounders has been designed for the most hostile environments. Outputs of 103dB(A) to 118dB(A) at 1m are available. The range also includes a voice sounder which has the facility for up to 20 seconds of speech, recordable either by integral microphone or through an external source. In addition, a 'mechanical bell' sound is available - a lighter, corrosion-free alternative to a mechanical alarm bell.

This explosionproof bell is manufactured from cast iron is available in DC and AC versions and can be painted to customer's specification.

EXPLOSIONPROOF LOUDSPEAKERS

MEDC offer a comprehensive range of explosionproof loudspeakers for use in potentially explosive gas and dust atmospheres which use MEDC proprietary GRP technology to offer a cost effective, robust and corrosion-free solution compared to metal loudspeakers.

In addition, MEDC offer the Next Two range of loudspeakers for use in industrial, commercial and leisure applications, which is also suitable for areas which do not require certified products.

EXPLOSIONPROOF HEAT DETECTORS

The MEDC-Hawco heat detector has been designed for use in hazardous environments. These units consist of a Fenwal rate-compensated detector and mounted to either a marine grade alloy enclosure (EExd version) or a GRP corrosion-free enclosure (EExia, EExem versions). Typical applications include fire alarm and/or suppression systems in offshore and onshore locations.

EXPLOSIONPROOF MOTOR STARTERS, CONTROL AND DISTRIBUTION UNITS, PANELS AND BOARDS

This range of motor starters, control and distribution units can be used individually or combined to provide hazardous area systems for indoor or outdoor use. MEDC have a wide experience of providing complete control and distribution systems for use in potentially explosive atmospheres.

EXPLOSIONPROOF CONTROL STATIONS

These control stations are suitable for use in all gas groups including hydrogen. These rugged enclosures are manufactured from a UV-stable glass reinforced polyester. Cover fixing screws are stainless steel thus ensuring a corrosion-free product.

EXPLOSIONPROOF JUNCTION AND TERMINAL BOXES

These GRP junction and terminal boxes have a robust design, coupled with corrosion-free GRP and a high ingress protection rating thus ensuring a long life, low maintenance product.
