Statoil chooses Schat Harding freefall systems for Veslefrikk B platform

LEADING lifeboat and davit specialist Schat-Harding has completed the installation of three sophisticated freefall lifeboat systems at Statoil’s strategic North Sea oil production platform 'Veslefrikk B'.
Statoil decided to replace the platform’s seven conventional lifeboats with the new freefall systems in order to improve safety and to reduce critical evacuation times in the event of an emergency at Veslefrikk B, the first permanent floating production unit in the Norwegian sector of the North Sea. It was also able to retire the standby vessel 'Siddis Pilot', with a consequent saving in annual operating expenses of Nkr25m.
Statoil says it is delighted with the outcome of the project, which saw all engineering, prefabrication and installation work carried out quickly and efficiently. The offshore installation work was performed by Vetco Aibel of Bergen, and co-ordinated by Schat Harding, with strong support from the group’s production facilities in Norway and the Czech Republic.
