Aker Kvaerner Process Systems - Process Systems and Complete Process Trains for the Oil and Gas Industry

Aker Kvaerner Process Systems (AKPS), part of the Aker Kvaerner group, is a leading international supplier of process systems and complete process trains for a range of products within the oil and gas industry. It ranks among the few companies currently able to offer complete processing trains for both onshore and offshore installations. These process trains include wellstream separation and oil treatment systems, water treatment systems for desanding and oil / water clean-up, solids handling systems, gas processing systems, MEG regeneration and desalting systems, as well as utility systems for a wide range of applications such as inert gas generation, methanol injection, chemical injection and various support systems.

Aker Kvaerner Process Systems custom-builds all its processing systems to meet both clients' specifications and the demands of onsite conditions. Whilst every installation is unique, each system built benefits from the Aker Kvaerner group's extensive experience.

WELLSTREAM SEPARATION / OIL TREATMENT

AKPS' separation systems are designed using technology developed within the group over years of operational experience throughout the world, both onshore and offshore. As a result, we have the in-house knowledge to customise the designs to suit any particular requirements. AKPS is able to supply complete integrated systems that provide high levels of performance through a wide range of operating conditions.

VESSEL INTERNALS

AKPS has more than 20 years experience in providing proprietary process internals for 2-phase and 3-phase gravity separators and gas scrubbers. Each set of internals is individually designed to meet the specified process conditions supported by a process guarantee.

COMPACT SEPARATION EQUIPMENT

When space and weight constraints are tough, AKPS' compact separation equipment is ideal. The compact degasser G-Sep CCDTM and the CECTM compact electrostatic coalescer provides well proven performance at the same time significantly reducing space and weight requirements. Being compact and light weight these are ideal choices for de-bottlenecking and modififying existing separator trains with minimum impact on existing installations.

WATER TREATMENT AND SULPHATE REDUCTION SYSTEMS

AKPS offers a broad range of technologies for water processing, with particular emphasis on the use of hydro cyclones in desanding and oil/water clean-up. AKPS also provides complete systems for seawater filtration, deaeration and sulphate reduction.

SAND AND SOLIDS TREATMENT

AKPS has vast experience in designing various integrated solids handling systems that include high pressure separation, collection, cleaning, dewatering and transport.

GAS TREATMENT

Since 1983, AKPS has designed and fabricated a large number of gas processing plants for a broad cross-section of processes and clients including both onshore and offshore gas sweetening and dehydration including membranes, amine and glycol based systems.

MEG REGENERATION AND DESALTING

Injection of monoethylenglycol (MEG) to prevent hydrate formation has become the industry standard for unprocessed gas transport at seafloor. Removal of water, salts and particles are crucial to the reliability of these systems. AKPS has developed and patented a technology as a solution to the high salt content in the produced water on the Statoil Åsgard B field installed in 2000. A similar sized onshore plant is under construction for BP for their Shah Deniz development project in Azerbaijan.

VOC RECOVERY

Aker Kvaerner offers a range of VOC recovery technologies and solutions through Aker Kvaerner Cool Sorption AS for both gasoline vapour recovery and crude oil vapour recovery. A world leader in VOC recovery, Aker Kvaerner Cool Sorption has delivered and installed more than 150 plants world wide.

UTILITY SYSTEMS

AKPS can supply utility systems for a wide range of applications such as inert gas generation, methanol injection, chemical injection and various support systems to complement the main process. AKPS can provide suitable models for heaters (both direct and indirect), injection systems and inert gas generators.

RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT

Major ongoing development programmes include:

  • Enhancing performance of gravity separators and electrostatic coalescers for the oil and gas industry
  • Development of compact new separation technologies including gas/liquid, liquid/liquid and solids / liquid multiphase rotating separators
  • Developing novel gas dehydration and sweetening systems, including membrane-based processes
