Sandvik Powdermet - Efficient Boilers for the Production of Green PowerSandvik Powdermet is a forerunner in fluidized bed combustion for pulp and paper industry and power producers, while it offers a wide range of power boilers for different needs, from small units to giant tailor-made boilers. Over 160 Bubbling Fluidized Bed (BFB) boilers and boiler conversions as well as over 60 Circulating Fluidized Bed (CFB) boilers in operation testify to Metso Power’s expertise in fluidized bed technology and in handling demanding fuels. HYBEX BOILERS FOR DEMANDING BIOMASS The company is an expert in Bubbling Fluidized Bed (BFB) boilers for environmentally friendly power generation from biofuels and recycled fuel with steam capacity ranging from 10MW to 300MW. Sandvik Powdermet’s HYBEX boilers using BFB technology, are suitable for wide range of fuel moisture from dry wood fuel to high moisture forest residue. The development of bubbling fluidized bed combustion began in the early 1970s. The first industrial BFB boiler saw daylight in the mid-1980s, since then the company has been the supplier of successive record-size BFB units. The major design innovation for the HYBEX boilers in the mid-1990s was the Hydro Beam floor – an advanced solution for removal of coarse material from the furnace. CYMIC BOILERS FOR HIGH CALORIFIC VALUE FUELS Sandvik Powdermet is one of the leading suppliers of circulating fluidized bed (CFB) boilers for coal, biomass and recycled fuel with steam capacity ranging from 50MW to 600MW. Sandvik Powdermet's CYMIC boilers using CFB technology combine high-efficiency combustion of high calorific value fuels with low emissions even when burning various fuels at the same time. The key element of the circulating fluidized bed boiler is the cyclone for returning the solid material to lower part of the furnace. CYMIC boilers use high efficiency cylindrical cyclones constructed of membrane walls and light refractory for erosion protection. FLUE GAS CLEANING AND HEAT RECOVERY For flue gas cleaning and heat recovery Sandvik Powdermet offers sodium or limestone based flue gas scrubbers. The condensing heat is recovered to hot water. Moisturizing the combustion air further increases heat recovery. SUSTAINABLE POWER FROM RECYCLED FUELS Sandvik Powdermet's thorough experience of biofuels has found good use in the segment of sustainable power industry, for instance, in the combustion of demanding fuels originating from waste streams, like wood residues and fuel derived from municipal waste. Today's advanced recycling systems can efficiently sort out reusable fractions from municipal waste and process the remaining combustible fraction for energy production. The refuse-derived fuels, RDF, form a major part in a society aiming at sustainable development. The EU requirements concerning the efficiency of combustion are becoming more stringent. With fluidized bed technology and with Metso Power's extensive product family it is possible to burn RDF with emissions well below compulsory limits.
