Champion Environmental Technologies - Anti-Fouling Products

Champion Environmental Technologies is a subsidiary company of Champion Technologies Inc., specialising in the supply of environmentally friendly anti-fouling products designed to enhance the efficiency and safety of subsea operations.

The company was established to concentrate on the development of Aquasign® subsea marker system, which has been used on a global scale for over 25 years in more than 600 subsea projects.

Champion Environ has recently introduced Cuprotect®, a unique coating system that utilises an environmentally aware approach to foul-prevention. Cuprotect® offers anti-fouling protection over a long-life, and can be used in a wide variety of offshore applications.

The company operates in accordance with BS EN ISO 9001:2000, and is fully accredited to both OHSAS 18001:1999 and BS EN ISO 140001:1996.

AQUASIGN® – ANTI-FOULING SUBSEA MARKERS

Aquasign® is manufactured using a modified silicone polymer incorporating a number of proprietary additives. Aquasign® has exceptional and long-lasting resistance to fouling, making it the premier choice for subsea marking. This is achieved without the use of toxic biocides, making it environmentally friendly.

Aquasign® is commonly used in following areas:

  • Identification - valves, electrical or fluid connectors, etc.
  • Orientation - indicating locations or elevation levels on fixed/floating platforms, manifolds, etc.
  • Positional - ROV levers, valves, chokes etc.

Market leading advantages:

  • Superior anti-fouling performance
  • Environmentally friendly
  • 50 years lifespan
  • High visibility
  • Cost effective
  • Versatile
  • Lightweight yet robust

AQUASIGN® OFFSHORE HARDWARE

Aquasign® has been used to mark a wide range of offshore hardware:

  • Steel jacket and TLP platforms
  • Concrete gravity base structures
  • Manifolds
  • PLEMs / PLETs
  • Jumpers and risers
  • X-trees
  • Pipelines
  • FPSOs

ANTI-FOULING SUBSEA MARKER DESIGN

Our manufacturing process of the anti-fouling subsea marker allows an almost infinite variation of design, and Aquasign® can also be coloured to customer requirements. Fixing methods for Aquasign® include; adhesive, flexible strapped markers for tubular sections, rigid-backed markers for bolting to pre-existing holes, etc.

CUPROTECT® - ANTI-FOULING COATING

Cuprotect® is a unique fouling control system that uses the proven anti-fouling properties of copper and copper alloys to provide complete protection even in the most stringent of conditions. Cuprotect® releases minimal amounts of copper into the marine environment and contains no booster biocides; for this reason it is environmentally more acceptable than traditional biocidal paints.

Cuprotect® is also functional in static environments, unlike foul-release paints, and is ideal for applications such as floating production units, VIV-suppression devices, mooring ropes, etc.

The Cuprotect® range also includes a zinc-rich primer, so that the system can double as a full corrosion resistance scheme in addition to its antifouling properties. All the primers and binders used in the system are based on existing, proven technologies.

Cuprotect® is non-conductive and will not interfere with existing CP systems. This is due to the low conductivity of the Copper-Nickel granules incorporated into the system, allied with the insulating effect of the primers.

Key benefits of Cuprotect®:

  • High performance anti-fouling coating
  • Significantly reduces operating expenditure
  • Long-life – 25 years
  • Highly damage tolerant
  • Environmentally aware
  • Functional in static environments unlike foul-release paints

CUPROTECT® APPLICATIONS

  • Risers
  • Strakes
  • FPSO hulls
  • Mooring ropes
  • Buoys
  • Steel jackets

APPLIED WITH CONVENTIONAL COATING TECHNIQUES

The application process is straightforward. Cuprotect® can be applied to large areas or targeted on specific fouling ‘hot-spots’, using conventional coating techniques.

Cuprotect® is ordinarily applied by licensed sub-contractors. It can also be applied by the end user, once training has been provided.
