CCI - Velocity Control Valves for Severe Service ApplicationsCCI has been the undisputed leader in the design, development and manufacture of velocity control valves for severe service applications since it designed, built and patented the first DRAG® valve in 1967. Since then, CCI has built and shipped tens of thousands of velocity control valves to customers in a wide range of industries that includes oil and gas production and refining. DRAG® VALVE TECHNOLOGYCCI DRAG valve technology has advanced in an industry where today's oil field environment means higher well-head pressures with aggressive fluid and entrained sand. The CCI severe service choke uses a combination of DRAG technology and proven choke valve material to provide long trim life and precise process control. CCI’s DRAG disk stack controls flowing velocities throughout the valve trim by forcing the process fluid to follow a tortuous path of right angle turns. The resistance to flow provided by these turns limits the trim exit velocity to a safe level, regardless of the pressure drop. The DRAG choke valve eliminates problems resulting from excessive fluid velocities such as trim and body erosion, noise, vibration and poor process control. SOLID TUNGSTEN CARBIDE TRIM – RECOMMENDED CHOKE MATERIALAlthough CCI chokes may be made with a variety of trim materials, CCI recommends solid tungsten carbide trim. The plug is solid tungsten carbide, not just carbide tipped. The seat is also provided with a tungsten carbide venturi, allowing for a controlled, erosion-resistant expansion into the choke outlet and downstream piping. SEVERE SERVICE CONTROL VALVESCCI has maintained its success in the design and manufacture of severe service control valves with specialized DRAG trims, combined with many years of field experience. Quick stroking requirements for compressor recycle have reached one second or less using low cost, highly reliable pneumatic actuation, a major trademark advantage of CCI control valves. For gas to flare valves, tight shutoff has ensured that product or feedstock has not been unnecessarily flared. A minimum of Class V shutoff and frequently Class VI shutoff has been applied successfully for this application. CCI can assist in selection of severe service valve applications to ensure low ownership costs. CCI can lower installed cost due to smaller pipe sizes, and reduce parallel valve installation due to high valve rangeability. For example, in compressor recycle, a start-up ball valve may be in parallel to the recycle valve. However, CCI can add this application requirement into the compressor recycle application, saving the client installation costs.
