Maersk Guardian just drilled over 1,800m of 16" hole on the Tambar field in Norway for BP using CleanCut, a totally enclosed containment and transfer system from M-I SWACO. All the cuttings where transferred directly to supply vessel in less than a week. The large capacity allowed for nearly 650 MT of oil based drill cuttings to be handled without any crane lifts or cuttings exposure to personnel. In addition, the new CleanCut Plug&Play boat frame had a 90% time saving on tank installation, securing critical rig operational time. This makes CleanCut a faster, safer and more environmentally acceptable method of collecting, storing and transporting drilling wastes than conventional systems.
CleanCut
The patented CleanCut system used by BP contained eight ISO-Pumps, vertical installed cuttings storage and pumping vessels on the rig and 24 ISO-Pumps horizontally installed for quick shift on the boat. The system successfully handled drilling rates up to 45m/hr in 16" hole. The new CleanCut Plug&Play boat frame for 24 ISO-Pumps was installed in record time of only 11hrs. This is less then 30 minutes per tank. Conventional installation of boat frames in the market takes minimum four hours per tank. This new frame has a 90% time saving, giving at least three days saved per installation of this magnitude. Due to changing of supply vessels three times, potentially nine days installation and dock time was saved with this new CleanCut Plug&Play design.
Global Market Leader
The CleanCut technology is global market leader in totally enclosed containment and transfer of both water and oil based drill cuttings, and with a stunning record of reliability of 99.7% uptime. In recognition of its virtual elimination of thousands of risky crane lifts per year, the US National Ocean Industries Association (NOIA) in 2006 awarded CleanCut its prestigious 'Safety in Seas Award'.
More than two million feet of hole has been handled by the CleanCut system, which is over 600,000 barrels of drill cuttings passed through the system to date. The seven year record shows over 50,000 operational hours. From the first CCB operational on the Transocean Leader in January 2000, the equipment fleet has grown significantly and is operative today in over 15 countries and on 45 installations globally.
