Produced Water from Production of Crude Oil, Natural Gas and Coal Bed Methane
03 March 2010This US Department of Energy (DoE) white paper looks at the largest byproduct of oil and gas production, wastewater. The report aims to act as a base line for any future studies on produced water and the US DoE is keen to learn how it is managed and regulated in different settings.
A major part of this study also looks into the costs of produced water management. It also looks at the various treatments that can be employed before the produced water is injected or discharged, along with federal and state regulatory requirements.
Chemical and physical characteristics of produced water and its potential impact on the environment and on oil and gas operations are also discussed by the Argonne National Laboratory in collaboration with John A Veil, Markus G Puder, Deborah Elcock and Robert J Redweik, Jr.
