Drilling starts on Loyal field in UK North Sea

Drilling started on the Loyal field in the North Sea as part of a seven-year campaign in the west of Shetland.

BP is serving as the operator at the Loyal field on behalf of its partners Royal Dutch Shell and OMV.

Odfjell Drilling’s Deepsea Aberdeen semi-submersible rig had been contracted to drill wells across the Schiehallion and Loyal fields, as part of the Quad204 development.

Eni begins oil production at Cinguvu field, offshore Angola

Eni started production at the Cinguvu oil field in the West Hub development project, Block 15 / 06, offshore Angola.

The development is located around 350km northwest of Luanda and 130km west of Soyo.

Drilling started at the Bister 6407 / 8-7 exploration well in the Norwegian Sea.

Located in a water depth of around 260m, the well is targeting oil and gas in the Jurassic, Ile, Tilje and Åre formations.

Statoil operates the well with a 35% stake. Faroe Petroleum holds a 7.5% interest.

Lamprell wins new jack-up drilling rig contract from Abu Dhabi firm

Engineering services provider Lamprell secured a jack-up drilling rig contract from National Drilling Company, Abu Dhabi.

The contract, based on one of its existing options, will see Lamprell build and deliver the ninth high-specification LeTourneau-designed, Super 116E (Enhanced) Class mobile offshore drilling unit to NDC.

Lamprell will construct the unit at its Hamriyah facility in the UAE, with a planned delivery in the second quarter of 2017.

Sterling Energy starts 3D seismic survey at Ambilobe block in Madagascar

Sterling Energy started a 3D seismic survey on a high-graded part of the Ambilobe Block, offshore Madagascar.
CGG Services is undertaking the survey, which is expected to be completed in 45 to 60 days.

Sterling Energy CEO Eskil Jersing said: "We are looking forward to safely and efficiently acquiring the first 3D seismic survey on the
Ambilobe Block; providing valuable new data which will be used to identify potential drillable prospects.”

MOL Group to acquire Ithaca Petroleum Norge

Hungarian oil and gas firm MOL Group will buy Ithaca Petroleum Norge (IPN) from Ithaca Energy, as a foray into the Norwegian market.

IPN has a portfolio of 14 licences in the North Sea area of the Norwegian Continental Shelf.

The company posted a loss of NOK143.4m in 2014.

MOL will initially pay $60m to acquire IPN’s assets. An additional $30m would be paid depending on exploration success from the existing licence portfolio.

Kosmos Energy discovers gas at Tortue-1 exploration well in Mauritania

Kosmos Energy has made a significant gas discovery at its Tortue-1 development well in Block C-8, offshore Mauritania.

The well was drilled to test the Tortue West prospect, which forms part of the Greater Tortue complex.

It was drilled to a 4,630m depth, where it encountered 107m of net hydrocarbon pay and a single gas pool in the primary Lower Cenomanian objective.

BP sells stake in CATS business to Antin for £324m

BP agreed to sell its stake in the Central Area Transmission System (CATS) business in the UK North Sea for £324m ($486m) to Antin Infrastructure Partners, which already owns a majority interest in the business.

BP, currently the operator of CATS, is selling its 36.22% share in the business, in which Antin has a stake of 62.78%, ConocoPhillips 0.66% and ENI 0.34%.

A combination of pipeline and processing facilities, CATS transports and processes gas on behalf of most of the major gas producers in the North Sea.

Noble Energy agrees for $73m settlement on Colorado air pollution charges

Noble Energy has agreed to spend $73.45m on system upgrades and projects to mitigate air pollution from its oil and gas exploration and production activities in the Denver-Julesburg (DJ) Basin, north of Denver, Colorado.

The agreement with the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the US Department of Justice (DOJ) and the State of Colorado will see Noble Energy improve emission control systems on several oil storage tanks situated within the DJ Basin.

The settlement resolves claims that the company failed to design, size, operate and maintain vapour control systems on its condensate storage tanks, leading to the emissions of volatile organic compounds (VOCs).

AziNor Catalyst buys UK North Sea licence from Stavanger

Oil and gas exploration firm AziNor Catalyst has acquired licence P.1946 in the UK North Sea from Stavanger Petroleum.

Stavanger has retained a 20% option interest in the licence, which covers block 15 / 12a.

AziNor will undertake all the technical work commitments on the licence.
