Statoil makes new natural gas discovery, offshore Tanzania

Statoil made a new gas discovery at the Mdalasini-1 exploration well off the Tanzanian coast.

The discovery of an additional one trillion cubic feet (tcf) to 1.8tcf of natural gas in the well brings the total of on-place volumes to 22tcf in Block 2.

Statoil drilled the Mdalasini-1 well with a 100% working interest. The Mdalasini-1 discovery is situated at a 2,296m water depth, at the southernmost edge of the block.

Harkand wins Maersk Oil North Sea contract

Harkand won a contract to provide diving support vessel (DSV) services to Maersk Oil North Sea.

Under the one-year contract, Harkand will provide well tie-ins, structure installation, piling, flexible flowline lay and flexible riser installation services in the North Sea region.

EIG to invest $1bn in Breitburn Energy Partners

EIG Global Energy Partners has agreed to invest $1bn in Breitburn Energy Partners, a publicly traded independent oil and gas firm.

EIG is purchasing $350m of convertible preferred equity, and $650m of senior secured notes issued by Breitburn.

The preferred equity pays monthly dividends that equal 8% annually, and will give EIG an 18% voting interest in Breitburn. The company will also be allowed to appoint one director to Breitburn’s board.

Three companies win $2bn Freeport LNG contract in US

A joint venture (JV) between CB&I, Chiyoda International and Zachry Industrial won a contract worth over $2bn from FLNG Liquefaction 3 for a liquefied natural gas (LNG) train at Freeport LNG in Texas, US.

The deal requires the JV to provide engineering, procurement and construction services for the third of the three-train natural gas liquefaction and export facilities on Quintana Island, near Freeport.

The contract’s scope also includes a double-walled, full-containment 165,000 cubic metre LNG storage tank, which will be delivered by CB&I.

McDermott to install subsea equipment for Jack and St. Malo fields expansion

McDermott International has secured a contract to support the expansion of the Jack and St. Malo fields in the US Gulf of Mexico.

Under the contract, McDermott will transport and install subsea umbilicals, manifolds, jumpers and flying leads for Chevron USA.

McDermott expects to use its North Ocean 102 subsea construction vessel to transport and install 30 miles of umbilicals and related flying leads in around 7,200ft of water.

BG Group starts oil production from Knarr field in Norway

UK oil and gas firm BG Group started producing first oil from the Knarr field in the Norwegian North Sea.

BG Group operates the field, which was discovered in 2008, with a 45% working interest.

Idemitsu Petroleum Norge and Wintershall Norge own 25% and 20% stakes respectively. DEA Norge owns the remaining 10% interest.

The field was drilled using the Petrojarl Knarr floating production, storage and offloading vessel (FPSO), which has a production capacity of 63,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day, and a storage capacity of 800,000 barrels.

KrisEnergy spuds Rossukon-2 exploration well in Gulf of Thailand

Oil and gas firm KrisEnergy spudded its Rossukon-2 exploration well in G6/48 in the Gulf of Thailand.

Shelf Drilling’s Key Gibraltar jack-up rig is being used to drill the well at 5,462ft measured depth. Water depth at the location is 210ft.

Rossukon-2, which is 1km northeast of the Rossukon-1 discovery well, will identify Early Miocene stacked fluvial sandstones on a broad structural high.

The well will also appraise the Rossukon-1 reservoir, which tested 850 barrels of oil per day. It will find further volumes of oil that could move the discovery near to commercial development.

Bowleven sells 40% stake in Etinde permit, offshore Cameroon

Oil and gas exploration firm Bowleven sold a 40% stake in its Etinde permit, offshore Cameroon, in a deal worth approximately $250m.

The company also sold a 30% stake to Lukoil and a further 10% to NewAge (African Global Energy). Bowleven has received an initial £112m in cash under the farm-out agreement.

Bowleven transferred the operatorship of Etinde to NewAge, and retains a 20% non-operated interest.

State-owned Societe Nationale des Hydrocarbures of Cameroon will hold a 20% interest in the permit.

GE Oil & Gas to supply equipment for Offshore Cape Three Points block in Ghana

GE Oil & Gas won an $850m contract to deliver turbomachinery and subsea elements for the Offshore Cape Three Points (OCTP) block, Ghana.

The subsea scope of the order was awarded by Eni Ghana and its partners Vitol Upstream Ghana and Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC).

A consortium of GE Oil & Gas and Oceaneering International will deliver the subsea production system.

It includes the subsea production, control system and umbilicals engineering, as well as project management, fabrication, transport and testing.

Eni to invest $5bn in Egyptian oil and gas resources development

Eni signed a framework agreement with the Egyptian Government to invest approximately $5bn in the development of the country’s oil and gas resources over the next four years.

The investments will be used to develop 200 million barrels of oil, and 1.3 trillion cubic feet (tcf) of gas.

The agreement will see the application of a new gas price, and extension of several permits to Eni’s projects in the Gulf of Suez, the western desert, and the Mediterranean offshore.
