Statoil Hires Songa Rig for Norwegian Continental Shelf

21 March 2011

Statoil has awarded a contract to Songa Offshore for Songa Delta, a semi-submersible rig for use on the Norwegian Continental Shelf (NCS).

Under the $400m contract, the rig will perform production drilling for Statoil's fast-track portfolio on the NCS.

Songa Delta will be deployed for drilling and completing wells, and will aid in the production of the fields.

Ivar Aasheim, Statoil head of field development on the NCS, said that securing drilling capacity is vital in executing the firm's fast-track developments.

"This helps to maintain the production level on the NCS," he said.

The rig will begin work on the projects for Statoil mid-2012.
