BP Discovers Hydrocarbons in Mexico Gulf

08 June 2007 16:29

BP has discovered hydrocarbons in an exploration well in the Gulf of Mexico in the US after drilling to around 19,100ft into Micocene era sands.

The Isabella prospect is located on Mississipi Canyon Block 562 in approximately 6,500ft of water, 150 miles southeast of New Orleans.

BP Exploration & Production hopes to tie the recent addition to the Na Kika production platform – where development drilling operations finished in June 2002 – to maximise the value of the infrastructure.

The Na Kika project marked the first deepwater subsea well completions with three commingled reservoirs, and the first deepwater subsea well completions with SMART well technology.

SMART Technology is made up of SMART Fields technology which integrates digital information technology with the latest drilling, seismic and reservoir monitoring techniques to provide energy more efficiently.
