Tullow Makes Oil Discovery in Ghana

18 June 2007 14:40

UK-based oil and gas exploration company Tullow Oil has announced an oil discovery in Ghana likely to contain at least 300 to 400 million barrels of oil.

The well is drilling to water depths of 1,320m on the West Cape Three, off the coast of the Republic of Ghana to a total depth of approximately 4,200m to test further prospective horizons. The discovery was based on the results of drilling, wireline logs and reservoir fluid.

The Mahogany-1 exploration well was drilled using the deepwater drill ship the Belford Dolphin and is the first exploration well to be drilled under the West Cape Three Points seven-year exploration agreement.
