19 July 2007 17:16

UK-based exploration and production company Black Rock Oil & Gas has announced a 'good' oil discovery in the Acacia Este exploration well in Colombia.

The well, situated in the Las Quinchas Block, was spudded by joint venture operator Kappa Resources over the weekend, with drilling operations now underway.

Black Rock says it found 'fair to good oil shows' at Acacia Este, which was drilled to a total depth of 3,970ft.

The company says initial results are very encouraging, with preparation for testing of the well now underway in order to assess its potential productivity.

The Las Quinchas Block contains the Arce, Bukhara and Baul heavy oilfields and a number of exploration prospects including the Acacia Este oil discovery.

The Arce oilfield contains heavy oil and is currently undergoing a steam injection test to determine commerciality and development options. Results of the testing are due out in approximately 10-20 days.
