Investigation Under Way as Four Killed in Saudi Aramco Fire

State-owned oil company Saudi Aramco is investigating a fire at the Ras Tanura north product terminal in Saudi Arabia after four workers were killed.

The fire at Ras Tanura in the country's eastern province resulted in the deaths of four workers employed by a contractor company. 11 other contract employees and one Saudi Aramco employee were injured.

Saudi Aramco says it will take all necessary action to ensure the safety of its people and facilities and has put together an investigation committee consisting of representatives from Saudi Aramco and government agencies.

In a statement Aramco say at no time during the incident were Saudi Aramco crude oil or product operations affected but it is believed Aramco has redirected loading to other terminals in the port complex, although this remains unconfirmed by the company.

Saudi Arabia, the largest member of the Organization for Petroleum Exporting Countries, produced 8.58 million barrels of oil a day in June, according to data compiled by US company Bloomberg. Ras Tanura is one of seven oil and refined-product export terminals in the kingdom.
