UK Carries Out Refinery Fire Investigation

26 July 2007 16:06

One of ExxonMobil's UK refineries is under investigation following a fire yesterday inside one of its units.

The UK Environment Agency and Health and Safety Executive is investigating the plant in Fawley Refinery, near Southampton run by Esso - part of US oil giant ExxonMobil.

One of the plant's units was evacuated in the early hours of yesterday morning due to the reported fire.

The halt in operations at the facility – which represents almost a fifth of the UK's refining capacity - is not believed to affect supplies at this stage.

ExxonMobil has not commented on when the refinery will re-open.
