BP Gas Pipeline Set to Re-Open in Autumn

31 July 2007 15:49

UK-based fuel giant BP will re-open its North Sea Central Area Transmission System (CATS) pipeline in September after damage to its protective coating caused it to shut down.

Divers have now completed a detailed inspection of the CATS pipeline at the location where a large vessel dragged its anchor over the pipe, damaging its protective concrete coating.

BP says a metal sleeve will be installed to strengthen and protect the affected area of pipeline. Service through the pipeline is expected to resume during September.

The CATS gas pipeline transports gas from fields in the central North Sea to terminals at Teesside in the UK. It is operated by BP and also owned by BG, Hess, ConocoPhillips, Eni and Total.
