Russian Refinery Fire Kills One

One person has died and two others have been injured in a fire at an oil refinery in Russia's West Siberia, leading to fears that hydrocarbon chemical ethylene was released into the atmosphere.

Leaks from equipment are believed to have caused a fire at 3.50am local time (8.50pm GMT) on Sunday at a compressor station in Tomsk owned by Russian energy company Tomskneftekhim, according to the Russian News and Information Agency, Novosti.

The fire has been extinguished and the injured workers hospitalized. An investigation into the accident is under way.
